Lesson 4: Indian Removal Act of 1830
This lesson plan has the purpose of introducing what the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was. It will look at what this legislation specifically said, the context of the time that it was passed, who it affected the most, and what the overall general outcome of this Act was. Already having a sense of the relationship between the U.S. Government and the Native Americans, students in this lesson will analyze a specific, but very significant example of this relationship, and gain a better understanding of the narrative of this relationship and the power dynamic that was created out of the U.S. government using legislation to negatively impact the lives of Native Americans across the United States.
