Lesson 2: The Treaty of Fort Pitt · US Government-Native American Legislation · Native History Project

Lesson 2: The Treaty of Fort Pitt

The lesson will  focus on an in-depth analysis of the first treaty between the newly established US Government and Native Americans, “The Treaty of Fort Pitt.” The most important aspect of this lesson will not be to strictly understand the outcome of “The Treaty of Fort Pitt.” Rather, it will be directed at comparing and contrasting many key aspects of the Treaty. Students will then be able to use this information to come to their own conclusions about the “The Treaty of Fort Pitt”. Based on an understanding and student-based conclusions drawn about the “The Treaty of Fort Pitt,” a trend will be established to characterize the relationship between the US Government and Native Americans. This trending outcome of the relationship between the two will be built upon throughout the course of the remainder of the unit.
